Trip to Holyoke #2

Not very long after my first trip to Holyoke I took another one....this time however, I went with all five kids and stayed for a week=) It was a treat to spend not only time with Uncle Chad, but Grampy and Grammy as well who came bearing the rest of Chad's belongings for Georgia up to Colorado. We enjoyed our time in Chad's cozy house and stayed for a whole week of Vacation Bible School as well. (Meanwhile Daddy went up to Oshoto, WY and was working on a sheetrock job.)

This first post is about the VBS and the next one will be about the rest of our time there. Chad had a busy week being one of the main leaders for the soccer-themed VBS which was for preschoolers to 6th graders. Alana went to the church where the younger kids were and Logan went to the local high school football field where the older kids met. From 8:45 to noon every day they played their little hearts out and enjoyed themselves a ton. Zachery helped out as one of Chad's assistant's while Monica, Jesse, and I hung out with Grammy back at the house.

Here are some pics I took throughout the week:
First day instructions~

They actually taught the kids soccer skills as they rotated to different stations throughout the day~
Halfway through the morning the kids would all meet in a nearby gym and sing, watch a skit, and then listen to Chad teach that days lesson focusing on the 5 colors of the wordless book~
And here he is sitting beside Pastor Penfold~There were between 80-90 kids in this group!
Jesse and the rest of us went over to listen to Uncle Chad a couple times also~
The last half hour of each day the kids would all get to play a 'real' soccer game. There were 10 teams and each team was matched up against another team of similar age and size since the teams were made according to the kids age and school grade. Logan's team won all week and tied on the last game!On the final day each of the kids were given their very own soccer ball, on top of the backpak, water bottle, and T-shirt they'd already received! Here is Logan's team closing out the week together in a time of prayer.

Meanwhile back at the church:
Alana was in the younger preschool group who spent their days in the church doing some of the same things but on a much simpler level. They did play some soccer themed games~
But a lot of their time was spent listening to stories~
Doing crafts~Playing your typical preschool games~
Listening to the Bible lesson~ (There was one afternoon I hung out at the church to catch up on e-mail and stuff so Jesse listened to a few stories and played some soccer)
And having a great time hanging out with new friends~
Their grand finale was to get to watch a movie with a Biblical lesson to it~
Their group had closer to 20 kids and I have to say - I was SO impressed with the VBS as a whole. The work and time and volunteers and prayer and planning and forethought that went into this undertaking had to have been huge! But this church of about 150 in a town of 2,000 was able to make a huge impact - and for the sake of my kids and all those others in attendance, I am very grateful! Job well done Faith Baptist Church of Holyoke! (especially Chad =)
