The never-ending story

Three weeks ago today dawned bright and early! Ok, so it wasn't really bright since the sun isn't out at 3:45am, but it was early! You see, Jenna had come over the day before and spent the night so we could get up and head to the airport for her 6:30 flight to Illinois. The plan was for her to go and spend Christmas with her family. But, not only was her family there, so was Kendrick! Jenna had no idea since he had decided to surprise her and just pick her up at the airport 2 days before Christmas and then spend his 10 day leave with her.....

However! That early Wednesday morning we checked her flight on the computer before heading to Rapid...it was delayed....scheduled for 8:45. No big deal right? We headed back to bed for another couple hours and then got up ready to head out. As Jenna checked the flights again she saw that it had been cancelled....
And so began a 5 day process of waiting for the airport to open, trying to squeeze onto a couple of the flights that actually made it out, talking to her parents and debating what to do, checking into road conditions to see if she could drive....AND THE WHOLE TIME I WAS GOING NUTS BECAUSE I KNEW KENDRICK WAS ON THE OTHER END!!!! I honestly (pun intended) told so many lies during those days that I had trouble keeping track. The story was that Kendrick was with my parents in Georgia, while in reality he was hiding in the other room each and every time that Jenna got on the computer and Skyped with her family in Illinois! There were some close moments!
But what's a girl to do other than make the best of it! Jenna kept a smile on her face and we really enjoyed so much having her here with us day after day after day after ....=)One of the things she did to pass her time was go outside with Monica and take pictures of the ice that was taking over our town. Girls will be girls...right?We came up with some weird forms of entertainement....like when Alana asked Jenna if she could brush her teeth...and Jenna said "Yes"...?!?!Another big treat for us during those pre-Christmas days was to have Uncle Chad come up and stay for a few days....longer than expected, actually, as he too had traveling issues both coming and going because of the weather. He came in on Tuesday and we had lots of fun playing games all together, going to our Christmas Eve service, catching up on what's going on in Holyoke. He recently had to move as the house he was renting sold, and the Lord provided him with a house that seems to be even more ideal than the last one=) (Jesse loves, LOVES, his Uncle Chad)On Thursday Chad made a trip to Rapid to take Jenna by the airport and see if she had any more luck in person that she'd had over the phone. They didn't, but the funniest part of that story is that on the way back this is what she said something like this to Chad, "At least Kendrick isn't there since it would be a lot harder to be patient about all this if I knew he was at the other end." Chad and I shared a good laugh (quietly while Jenna was in the other room) about that=)

Then later that night, Christmas Eve, we hunkered down in Buffalo Gap, read the Christmas story, stuffed 9 stockings, brought out the last of the Christmas presents to put under the tree, and hoped for good weather for Jenna's Christmas day flight....which was plan G, but I've lost track....=)

I...on the other hand...never lied to Jenna during those days of secrecy. I always told the truth...albeit veiled.
