Cool Matthew

Since I've already interrupted the series of wedding related posts I thought I'd add this one as well before I go back to finishing up about our trip to Wisconsin! Today's post is hot off the press....or should I say hot off the grill!

My cool husband has just finished making himself a smoker! For years Matthew has enjoyed smoking, grilling, and basically anything that has to do with the preparation of a tasty meal where the main coarse is meat. So this smoker is a little bit of a dream becoming a reality for him and his first 'event' was Calvary's "Back to Church" event that took place today.

Over the course of the last few weeks Matthew has been gathering supplies and putting together a smoker capable of practically holding a whole cow.....thanks to some good friends and some handy neighbors it was finished just in time! Here is the finished work of art as it sat in the backyard of the church as of last night. Matthew hauled it into town (it's built on a trailer) and started smoking around 8pm last night. About 15 hours later we were setting the food out on the table and were ready to eat! Here he is with some of his 'secret' ingredients.... He prepared 4 different options - (1) a rub which is pictured below, (2) some that was unseasoned except for the maple syrup and the oak that was used in the smoker, (3) some where he just added some Famous Dave's BBQ Sauce, (4) and finally a portion was with his homemade sauce (known as "MOSS" which was a term coined by Kendrick that stands for man sauce)! So after two 45 minute power naps throughout the night (!) he was ready to start pulling the pork apart and preparing it to season some more. Then it went back on the smoker to finish off before serving it to a hungry bunch of church folk who had to wait patiently throughout the services while the smells slowly worked their way all through the church=)

I have to say I think it was a BIG HIT=)

See! I told you he was cool=) And now, as I write this, he is taking a well deserved nap! Good job, Honey!
