Turkey Dinner, Anyone?

Well, I have quite a story to share with you today! I should start by mentioning that, for quite some time now, Logan has been anxious to catch a turkey....yes, I said 'catch' a turkey. They are quite plentiful in Buffalo Gap during this time of year and often a flock, crowd, group, gaggle of whatever they are called, will walk by our house, sometimes even in the back yard. I'm not sure if you've noticed but they are getting quite plump and are big ugly things with beaks and long sharp claws on the end of their gangly legs. But, regardless of all that, each time they are close by Logan takes of out the door and chases them running and screaming. They take off, often flying for a little while, just to escape this mad maniac. And escape they always did.....that is until yesterday!!!!!

I saw a bunch of them in the back yard and told Logan - off he shot like a bullet from a gun. He cornered several of them as they got stuck in the fence or flew over it and just flat out panicked in a flurry of wings, beaks, and sharp, frantic feet. At this point Logan had second thoughts....they were a bit overwhelming and scary. But I hollered to him, "Here's your chance, Logan! What are you going to do?" So he went to the sandbox and pulled out a giant frisbee, walked up behind the last remaining, panicked turkey and pinned him to the fence! "I CAUGHT HIM!!! I CAUGHT A TURKEY!", he shouted victoriously! (over and over and over and over....)

Then Daddy helped him grab a hold of it and get it from a pinned position to a held position - Logan was still doing a victory dance! It was a glorious moment! Then, while Logan held his prize, those that were brave enough decided to pet him as he was surprisingly calm about it all once Logan had a hold of him.Unfortunately, even with Thanksgiving right around the corner, we only kept him long enough to document the momentous occasion with several pictures and then let him go. Logan wants me to be sure and share with you that he had a small sort of spike on his forehead, between his eyes. Not exactly the cutest of creatures but, boy oh boy, Logan was one excited 7-year old! He was lovingly named, Turk....=)
And then later on that day, although nothing else could quite match the same level of excitement that had been reached by the great and mighty hunter - Monica still managed to put her artistic talent to work and create a diversion.
And here we have Jesse the lion~

Alana the kitten ~

And Logan the cottonmouth snake ~

What an afternoon it was!
And for one final glimpse of the conquering turkey warrior ~

Thumbs up, Logan Drew!
